The NNCA created a Building Capacity fund in 2014 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the NWT’s Apprenticeship Program. This fund resulted in three (3) Apprenticeship Scholarships to support students enrolled in a construction-related apprenticeship program and working for a member company. Fortunately, we have been able to secure sufficient funds each year since to offer three (3) scholarships per year. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to making our scholarship program a success.
Apprenticeship Scholarships for the 2017/18 Technical Training year
The NNCA is happy to announce that we raised sufficient funds to offer three (3) Apprenticeship Scholarships over the coming technical training year. Each scholarship is valued at $1600 and is intended to support apprentices registered in a trade and completing their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year training during the 2017/18 technical training year.

Application deadlines are as follows:
- 4pm MT, Wednesday, October 25, 2017;
- 4pm MT, Wednesday, December 13, 2017; and
- 4pm MT, Wednesday, February 14, 2018.
The deadlines are staggered to reflect the fact that apprentices may be participating in training at different times during the year. For the purposes of this scholarship, the technical training year is August 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018.
Miles Neglak-Voss won a 2016 NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarship. Miles is a Carpenter Apprentice with Konge Construction Ltd. and is studying at SAIT.
Brendan Murphy won a 2016 NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarship. Brendan is apprenticing as an Electrician with DT Electric Ltd. and is studying at Aurora College.
John Koyczan won a 2017 NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarship. John is an Apprentice Roofer with Unico Roofing Contractors (NWT) Ltd. and is studying at NAIT.
Jared Bilenki won a 2015 NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarship. Jared is apprenticing as a Welder with Paul Bros. NEXTreme Inc. and studying at SAIT.
Levi Jones was awarded a 2015 NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarship. Levi is a Carpenter Apprentice with Clark Builders and is pursuing his studies at Aurora College.
Axel Wilcox also won a 2015 NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarship. Axel is apprenticing as a Plumber and Gas Fitter with Jago Services Inc. and is studying at SAIT.
Masaya Koyanagi won the Peter Buchanan Memorial Apprenticeship Scholarship in 2014. Masaya is a Sprinkler System Installer Apprentice studying at Red Deer College and apprenticing with Fire Prevention Services Ltd.
Derek Bednarek won one of the NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarships in 2014. Derek is a Welding Apprentice with King Manufacturing and studying at the Northern Lakes College.
William Scott won a 2014 NNCA Apprenticeship Scholarship. Will is apprenticing as a carpenter with Konge Construction and studying at Aurora College.
The Federal Government offers grants to registered apprentices to support pursuing a career in a Red Seal designated trade.
The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant provides financial support to registered apprentices in a Red Seal Trade.
The Apprenticeship Completion Grant is grant available to registered apprentices who have successfully completed their apprenticeship training and obtained their journeyperson certification in a designated Red Seal Trade.
Eligible apprentices can receive up to $4,000 in federal grants to support their trade training.
